WHAT IS AN ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT (ADU)?
ADU (in full- Accessory Dwelling Unit) is basically a second unit that is built on residential single-family properties, commonly known as "in-law unit" or "granny flat." It can be either a garage that is converted into a second unit, a detached addition, an extension to the existing house, or part of the existing house. The allowed size of the ADU varies between the cities and is based on lot size and setbacks. It usually includes a kitchen, bathroom and 1 or 2 bedrooms.
